Both teams are arguably the number one team, but the Saints have just been so good this year, taking care of a very talented Atlanta Falcons team.

The Giants continue their losing streak, dropping their third straight. They’ve also lost three straight games to the Eagles, including the postseason. I said last week that if they wanted to stay in the top ten they’d have to beat Philadelphia. They couldn’t even keep it close and dropped back to number 11.

Denver lost to Baltimore, leaving just two unbeatens left. I guess the 1972 Dolphins and 2007 Patriots are getting ready to pop the champagne. Because the Lions lost to the Rams, there’s also only one winless team left (Tampa Bay).

Games to watch this week include: Houston at Indianapolis, Baltimore at Cincinnati, Miami at New England, San Diego at New York Giants, Dallas at Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh at Denver.

Because of that, they’ve worked themselves back into the top five – a place they haven’t been since week two.

Over the past two weeks, the Giants have managed to drop eight slots down to number nine. They’ll have an opportunity to climb back a bit this week if they beat their division-rival Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have been slightly inconsistent lately, themselves. If they want to make it back into the top ten and stay there, they’ll have to beat the Giants and Cowboys the next couple weeks.

The bottom of the ladder remains ugly. Even some teams that have one or two wins look like they’ll lose every other game this season. This week, the “Battle of the Bads” takes place in Detroit when the Rams come into town to face the Lions.

Games to watch this week include Denver at Baltimore, New York Giants at Philadelphia, Miami at New York Jets, Minnesota at Green Bay, and Atlanta at New Orleans.

This week, there’s a new number one. Actually, only one team in the top five stayed at the same spot.

This week, the Saints showed that they’re the best team in the NFC, and maybe the whole league. The Titans were embarrassed and have now dropped to 30th. And just when the Bengals were getting close to the top five, the lost. They have, however, managed to stay in the top ten, coming in at number nine.

The Broncos have a bye this week, so there will be at least one undefeated team after week seven. Pittsburgh looks to get back into the top five as they take on the Vikings this week.

Be sure to check PSL’s fantasy injuries each week so you can get ready to set your lineup for Sunday (and Monday – and sometimes Thursday).

Calvin Johnson – Detroit Lions

Questionable – Knee

Johnson hasn’t practiced all week. He isn’t listed as doubtful, so there is a slight chance he’ll play, but don’t become optimistic.

Matthew Stafford – Detroit Lions

Questionable – Knee

Stafford hasn’t participated in practice and is listed as questionable. The Lions said it would be a game-time decision whether Stafford starts or not. Detroit has their bye during week 7; so don’t be surprised if they bench Stafford this week in order to give him extra time to heal up.

Percy Harvin – Minnesota Vikings

Questionable – Shoulder

Harvin had limited participation in practice Thursday and Friday. He’s listed as questionable, but there’s a good chance he’ll play Sunday against the Ravens.

Rashard Mendenhall – Pittsburgh Steelers

Illness

Mendenhall is not on the Steelers’ injury report after missing practice Thursday with flu-like symptoms. Looks like he’ll be playing this week as Willie Parker makes his return.

Kevin Curtis – Philadelphia Eagles

Questionable – Knee

On Friday, Curtis fully participated in practice. He remains listed as questionable, though. If he does play Sunday, don’t expect much out of him. Maclin owners should check Sunday morning to see who the starter is.

Jerricho Cotchery – New York Jets

Doubtful – Hamstring

Cotchery hasn’t practiced and is listed as doubtful, although not completely ruled out of Sunday’s game. If Cotchery doesn’t play – which he probably won’t – it should give Braylon Edwards another opportunity to have a decent game. Don’t expect crazy numbers from either guy as Buffalo only allows 185.6 passing yards a game.

During the fantasy draft, the first three picks are probably the most important. Those players are your breadwinners. They get you points every week. Well, at least they’re supposed to.

Sometimes injuries can mess up a player’s production. Other times, they simply don’t get there.

For some teams, week one looked great. Their stars put up good points and everything was fine. Then all of a sudden, nothing. A couple straight weeks of three-point games from a player can really bug a fantasy owner. Well now there’s hope.

This week, some players that you may have written off for dead, are in line to have a solid week 6.

Quarterbacks

Jake Delhomme – Carolina Panthers

So far this season, Delhomme has 3 touchdowns and 8 interceptions; not a good statistic to have. He’s thrown at least one interception in every game, and the most touchdowns he has thrown in a single game this year is one. Needless to say, he’s available in your league.

This week, Delhomme goes up against a terrible Tampa Bay secondary that allows opposing quarterbacks a 109.9 rating. They’ve given up 12 passing touchdowns – third most in the league. Don’t start Jake Delhomme over your normal starter (unless your normal starter is Kevin Kolb). But, if your number one guy is on a bye week and your backup plays a tough defense, it’s Jake to the rescue.

Jason Campbell – Washington Redskins

Jason Campbell has been a slightly better producer than Jake Delhomme. He’s at least thrown 6 touchdowns to go along with his 5 interceptions. Last week, against the Panthers, he actually went the whole game without a pick. Well this week, Campbell plays the Chiefs. Kansas City gives up 270 passing yards and allows an average of two throwing touchdowns per game. If Campbell is going to have a great game against anyone, it’s them. But again, don’t put him in over someone like Aaron Rodgers or Matt Schaub.

Running Backs

Brian Westbrook – Philadelphia Eagles

Due to injuries, Westbrook only has one touchdown thus far. It came last week against the Buccaneers. In that game, he only managed 6 rushes for 18 yards. He also had two receptions for 17 yards. With these stats, a lot of people worry that LeSean McCoy will be seeing more and more carries. Not this week.

On Sunday, the Eagles go up against the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders are ranked 31st against the run and have allowed 7 rushing touchdowns so far. They also give up an average of 161 rushing yards per game. Look for the Eagles to take advantage and hand the ball off to Westbrook more than six times.

Knowshon Moreno – Denver Broncos

So far this year, Moreno has been doing pretty well for his rookie season. Last week, as the go-to-guy, he managed 88 yards on the ground and 36 through the air. Correll Buckhalter may return this week against the Chargers, but expect Moreno to put up good numbers; better than his performance last week. San Diego has given up 6 rushing touchdowns, and that includes their bye week. Look for Moreno to find the end zone and get close to 100 yards.

Wide Receivers

Steve Smith – Carolina Panthers

When Jake Delhomme does poorly, so does the original Steve Smith. But, that holds true both ways. So when Delhomme goes up against a bad pass-defense, so does Smith. So far this year, Smith only has 20 catches for 255 yards. He has yet to find pay dirt. Expect that to change this week.

Greg Jennings – Green Bay Packers

Going into the season, Jennings was one of those big name receivers that was probably taken third round in your draft. So far, he’s a bit of a disappointment. His best game was week one, where he had 6 grabs, 106 yards, and a touchdown. Since then, 5 catches, 134 yards, no touchdowns. If there’s anytime for Jennings to get back on track, it’s this week against the Detroit Lions. The Lions have had an abysmal pass-defense so far in 2009. They’ve given up a league-high 15 passing touchdowns. Don’t be surprised if Jennings gets close to 100 yards and pulls in at least one touchdown.

The Broncos have been attempting to prove to everyone that they’re legit, and now they’ve done it. With Kyle Orton playing as well as any quarterback, throwing 7 TDs and just 1 interception, Denver begins the season 5-0.

The Broncos aren’t the only surprise of the year. The Bengals have climbed the ladder to number seven with a comeback win over Baltimore this week.

Right now, five undefeated teams remain. That will all change next week, as the Giants travel to New Orleans to take on the Saints. The Colts are guaranteed to remain unbeaten as they head into their bye week. The Vikings and Broncos both have tough match-ups. Minnesota will battle it out with Baltimore, as the Ravens look for redemption, and Denver travels to San Diego to clash with the Chargers on Monday night.

Check ProScoutlook.com every Tuesday to see where your team ranks in the National Football League.

Need to know if your starting running back is going to play this weekend? Injuries are a huge part of fantasy football. If your receiver is a number two, but the number one guy isn’t playing, that could mean you’re in for some solid points. Be sure to check PSL’s fantasy injuries each week so you can get ready to set your lineup for Sunday (and Monday – and sometimes Thursday).

Jamal Lewis – Cleveland Browns – Questionable – Hamstring

Lewis had full participation in practice Friday. He remains listed as questionable, but should be good to play. We wouldn’t expect him to get a full load. Don’t be surprised if Jerome Harrison gets a decent amount of carries as well.

Jonathan Stewart – Carolina Panthers – Questionable – Achilles

Although Stewart is listed as questionable, he took part in all of practice Friday. Right now, it looks like he will play Sunday against the Redskins. Washington allows 128 rushing yards per game, but has only given up one touchdown on the ground.

Willie Parker – Pittsburgh Steelers – Out – Toe

Parker hasn’t practiced all week. With the Steelers curious to see if Mendenhall can perform like he did in week 4, they will rest Parker and hope he is ready for week 6 against the Browns.

Matthew Stafford – Detroit Lions – Questionable – Knee

Stafford took part in some drills Friday, but wasn’t running around. The Lions aren’t going to completely rule him out until Sunday morning, but don’t expect him to play. Detroit isn’t a great team, but they should be smart enough to make sure their franchise quarterback is at full strength before letting him play.

Calvin Johnson – Detroit Lions – Probable – Thigh

The Lions limited Johnson’s participation in practice on Friday, but he’s listed as probable. Expect him to get the start against a Steelers’ defense that will likely be without Troy Polamalu again.

Roy E. Williams – Dallas Cowboys – Doubtful – Ribs

Roy E. didn’t participate in practice this week, making it very unlikely he will play on Sunday. He’s not officially ruled out, but look for Miles Austin to get the start in his place. Austin and Patrick Crayton have a favorable match up against a spotty Kansas City defense.

Felix Jones – Dallas Cowboys – Doubtful – Knee

Jones’ status is basically the same as Williams’. He hasn’t practiced, and it is very unlikely that he will play this weekend. The way things look right now, the Cowboys will start Marion Barber with Tashard Choice as his backup for the second straight week.

Darren McFadden – Oakland Raiders – Out – Knee

This will probably be the only time McFadden is on this list for about two to four weeks. That’s not a good thing, by the way. McFadden underwent surgery on Tuesday and will miss at least two games. The Raiders have their bye, week 9, so don’t be surprised if they take their time bringing McFadden back and wait until week 10.

Kevin Boss – New York Giants – Doubtful – Ankle

Boss missed practice Friday. If he’s your normal starter at TE, you may want to begin thinking about who you want to start instead. Although, with only an average of 35.75 yards per game and no touchdowns, you may want to do that anyway.

Eli Manning – New York Giants – Questionable – Foot

On Friday, Manning participated in most of practice with the first team. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, as the Giants never really seemed worried that Eli wouldn’t play. Unless he has some kind of setback over the next couple days, expect him to get the start on Sunday against the Raiders.

Antonio Bryant – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Questionable – Knee

Bryant was able to play last week against the Redskins. He caught 4 passes for 44 yards and a score. Bryant has been limited in practice this week, but the Bucs are just being precautious. Expect him to play Sunday. Now may be a good time to pick him up. He may be available in some leagues, and you can get him for cheap in others. Once he is back to full health, he’ll be the go-to-guy.

Fred Taylor – New England Patriots – Questionable – Ankle

Taylor is on the same boat as Darren McFadden. Except, Taylor is on the boat for a bit longer. There’s no definite number, but don’t expect him to return for at least four to six weeks. The Patriots do believe he’ll be able to return at some point, however, otherwise they’d put him on injured reserve.

Wes Welker – New England Patriots – Questionable – Knee

Last week, Wes was able to play against the Ravens. He recorded 6 grabs for 48 yards. Welker was limited in practice on Friday and is officially listed as questionable, but he should be able to play Sunday. Check back before the game just to be sure. In a PPR league, Welker is usually a great start. In the two games he’s played, Welker has 12 and 6 catches.

Correll Buckhalter – Denver Broncos – Out – Ankle

Buckhalter is officially listed as out for Sunday’s game against the Patriots. This means rookie Knowshon Moreno will get the start and almost all of the carries.

Matt Hasselbeck – Seattle Seahawks – Probable – Rib

It looks like Hasselbeck is going to return to action on Sunday against the Jaguars. On Friday he took almost all of the first team snaps. His match up against Jacksonville this week is very favorable as the Jags give up over 280 yards/game in the air.

Joseph Addai – Indianapolis Colts – Questionable – Hand

Addai fully participated in practice on Friday, but remains listed as questionable. He’ll most likely play, but will be going against a Titans’ defense that allows 79.8 rushing yards per game. They’ve also only give up two touchdowns all year.

Jerricho Cotchery – New York Jets – Questionable – Hamstring

Cotchery missed practice on Friday and the Jets officially have him listed as questionable. He does have an extra day to rest, as they play the Dolphins Monday night. Right now, however, it’s not looking too good. The Jets won’t rule him out yet, so check on his status Sunday before the early games. If Cotchery doesn’t start, newcomer Braylon Edwards might be able to put up decent numbers in his debut with the Jets.

In week 3, they beat the Falcons and now have handed the Ravens their first loss of the season. Denver is next in their sights.

The most important key to staying high in the power rankings is staying healthy. The Giants may have run into a problem as Eli Manning could miss this weekend’s game against the Raiders. Troy Polamalu’s absence is what has given the Steelers their 2-2 start. However, he could be back as early as this week. Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook both returned to practice for the Eagles, making them a dangerous team to break back into the top ten.

Week 5 will bring many important games. Match-ups to watch include Cincinnati at Baltimore, Atlanta at San Francisco, New England at Denver, Indianapolis at Tennessee, and New York Jets at Miami on Monday Night.

This week Drew Brees threw for just 172 yards and no touchdowns. The Saints still won. Kevin Kolb got his first NFL victory, albeit, against the Chiefs.

Week 4 begins bye-weeks. The Cardinals, Falcons, Panthers, and Eagles all have byes this coming week. That means all seven undefeated teams will play. The Jets travel to the Superdome to face the Saints, so there will be at least one less undefeated team next week (unless they tie).
