Boo-Yah! A Tribute to SportsCenter
Back, back, back, back…GONE!
Last week, ESPN celebrated a monumental milestone in it’s unprecedented history. Thirty years ago on the day of the channel’s launch, ESPN debuted it’s pride and joy, SportsCenter. Nearly 32,000 episodes and hundreds of Bermanisms later, SportsCenter has well-established itself as the premiere go-to sports informant.
The wit and charm that seeps from every episode is enough to draw in viewers of both minimal and obsessional sports interest. But the real hook-line-and-sinker is the 30 second commercial featuring the sports world’s hottest stars.
The following clips look back at some of the brightest SportsCenter moments you just can’t get enough of.
- Jorge “Carne” Posada will be featured in a couple of the following SportsCenter clips. Here you’ll here the chants normally heard in the stands of Yankee Stadium:
- Dan Patrick and Karl Ravech star in this commercial from 1997. A blast from the past.
- With the first half Jimmy Rollins had in ’09, it seems as though Scott Van Pelt may have been able to reteach J-Roll a thing or two.
- Easily one of this decade’s classic clips. LT can find the perfect hole between 300-pounders but not the right mailbox through his visor.
- In a tribute to SportsCenter, we can always find time to tribute the Crocodile Hunter.
- David Ortiz really let Red Sox Nation down this time, more so than testing positive in ’03.
There are so many great SportsCenter commercials not featured here. Let us know which ones you want to see. We’ll do our best to track them down.
Duh-nuh-nuh. Duh-nuh-nuh!
